Matsoho A Thuso (SeSotho for "Helping Hands") is a national HIV/AIDS Care and Prevention Programme run by The Salvation Army, Southern Africa Territory.

The Salvation Army has over 300 corps (congregations) in South Africa. Our existence as a church has always been twinned with the realisation that we have a responsibility to positively impact our society and to respond in practical ways to society's challenges with care and understanding.

Matsoho A Thuso seeks to equip Salvationists and community members to bring about a culture of care, response and acceptance of people living with HIV/AIDS. We aim to:
reach out to people living with HIV/AIDS through Home Based Care; to improve the quality of life for Orphans and Vulnerable Children; and to promote abstinence before marriage and faithfulness within marriage as a viable lifestyle worth pursuing.

We work according to the assumption that communities have the strength and the capacity to deal with their own challenges. Therefore we do not impose solutions, but assist communities in the process of responding effectively through the process of "community counselling." This belief in communities inherent capacity permeates Matsoho A Thuso.
